movie night and day care...

We were able to get out to watch 21 in the theater last night. Good movie - not as good as Rounders or anything, but entertaining. The theater near our house has free popcorn on Tuesdays with your frequent movie goer/points card - i ate like a third of my bag. Wei Yan finished his whole bag. We argued about the goat problem afterwards, which made me feel like we're closer to the nerds in the movie than I'd like to admit (ok, i didn't do much arguing, except for us to get on the road & get some food before stuff closed).

Max also went to day care for a half day this morning. They said he did really well and liked sitting on the playmat that has stuff hanging from a bar overhead - he really likes the mat my aunt got him too, so that made sense. He also stayed up the whole time he was there, just like yesterday. Last night he slept from about 11:30pm to 5:30am - not sure if it was the shots or that he only slept for a few hours during the day. He's sleeping more today, so we'll see....

Movie Reviews

I'll keep the spoilers to a min, but just some thoughts on the few movies we've watched recently.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
We got this from Netflix since it's a movie it seems we should watch. So now I get a few more movie references that I wouldn't have gotten before, but I think the references are more funny than the actual movie. I guess I just don't get British humor. It was pretty much a waste of time for me...I laughed out loud maybe once? Totally not my type of humor.

No Country for Old Men
Wei Yan's pick here. I went in with no expectations. Interesting, weird, a bit disturbing. Not your run of the mill Hollywood crime/suspense movie. Gotta pay attention here and only watch this if you like the off the beaten path/different movies.

27 Dresses
My pick this time. Tired from the pregnancy and ready to just turn my brain off for 1.5 hours, so this movie delivered. I'm impressed with Katherine Heigel's ability to pull off comedy (Knocked Up was funny too) - not that the movie was as much of a comedy as Knocked Up, but it's just harder to pull off funny than you would think. Don't expect much from plot or predictability, but it got the whole theater laughing more than a few times and satisfied my need to just turn off my brain for a few & relax.

Superbad

Went to see Superbad on Saturday. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I can't even remember much about specific jokes, but I can't remember a time when I've laughed that hard at the movies. I think this is probably one of the crudest movies around, but at the same time actually had some pretty honest, real moments. Do not see this movie if you are easily offended and definitely heed the R rated-ness (not child safe). Hilarious.

Bourne Ultimatum

Every time I go to a new sequel this summer, seems like I can't for the life of me remember what happened in the last movie. Maybe it's pregnancy brain, or just that I pretty much go to movies to shut my brain off. You will not hear me complaining that Transformers wasn't "real enough" or the acting was bad. Really, it's 1) enter theater, 2) shut brain off.

We went to go see Bourne Ultimatum last night and I think if your brain was half on, you would still enjoy it. I do remember laughing during some fight scene and thinking, "Am I supposed to be laughing here?", but yup, it was definitely entertaining. I think the biggest chuckle was the Norton anti-virus scan...hilarious. I wonder how much that cost!?!? Everyone has told us to go to the movies now, since after the baby gets here, we won't be watching many. Luckily this summer has kept us busy.

harry potter movie

so we went to go see the new harry potter movie. it was good as usual, but it's definitely not going to be my favorite harry potter movie. my memory must be just as bad as it's aways been, because I can't remember what happened in the last one, or what happened in which previous movie. 2 more movies to go before i can start reading the books...i hate watching movies after the reading the book. i'm always disappointed. but everyone i know is addicted to reading the books.

Dreamgirls

We went to go see Dreamgirls tonight! I heard all about the nominations, but was mostly excited to see Jennifer Hudson, since I was really mad when she got kicked off of American Idol and I know she can sing. I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but with the Motown/soul music and the great story, I really loved it. Wei Yan thought some of the sequences where they are singing dialogue were a little weird, and some of the scenes with Eddie Murphy made me laugh cuz they had just a little too much resemblance to the "Sexual Chocolate" scenes in Coming to America. So, in terms of story telling, I think it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
