So Max is definitely over the stomach bug and Wei Yan & I seem to be OK so far. Yesterday we went to dim sum for lunch. Max started out eating some chicken bits from the green bean dish - which amazed me since he usually shuns anything resembling meat. Then he went to town on the fish - and even gobbled up a black bean that got mixed in. Between the fish & the stir fried ho fun, Wei Yan & I were having a hard time putting food on his plate fast enough. After a few tries, he tried the rice congee/jook too and seemed to really like that. So usually I'm opposed to dim sum - at least here in NC, but looks like I've been officially out voted now by the boys.
In other news, work got hit by this worm:

And I just that 60 min segment last night after the Carolina game (go Heels!) so I'm booting my PC at work. It was acting strange & I'm super paranoid...seems like I should know more, but I'm just a programmer, not an IT specialist.

Back to Work
Monday was my first day back to work. It started off a bit slow since I had to wait on my OB's office to fax me a letter that I needed clearing me to go back to work. So Wei Yan left in the morning to take Max to day care and I got some time to clean the house a bit (yeah, to look at you would never be able to tell I had done anything...but the 45min was the most I've done at one time in forever). My work email inbox was just shy of 700 emails. For 10 weeks that's not bad! I was able to delete most of them and only read maybe 50-100. Yes, I was counting down the minutes I had to go pick up Max, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.
Monday evening and Tuesday were a bit rough, we're trying to figure out if Max's eczema is bothering him (crap, i just added "ezcema" to the mozilla spellchecker by accident....darn it). So by Tuesday evening I was ready to go back full time. Wednesday at work, I figured out I'll be taking off Tuesdays and Thursdays until May 20th and then I'm full time after that.
Course this morning things are much nicer. Max was pretty fussy last night. The day care said that we should bring in some diaper cream for his "bm, uncontained" that irritated his bottom - I was annoyed at first but once I checked it out, I was impressed cuz I think they were actually being overly cautious. Still that might have been bothering him a bit on top of the ezcema. Fed him at 10:15pm, and Max woke up at 3:20am for a feeding. Then he was asleep by 4am and didn't wake up until 8:30am. I fed him and we played for a bit and he fell fast asleep around 10am. Hopefully today will be much better! It would really suck if the last 10 days of my maternity leave are spent taking care of a really cranky baby! This morning he was smiling and loving just hearing me talk to him and watching the ceiling fan from his bassinet after breakfast. I'd post some pics, but the camera is still in Wei Yan's car right now...soon.

Holiday Party
Our company had it's annual holiday party. Oddly enough, the 2007 party is in January of 2008 - it's like 60% savings to do it after the new year, and frankly it's nice to be done with all the holiday stuff before going to the party. Probably our last night out with the whole dressing up & going out thing for a while. I made it to 11:30pm! (OK, I did sleep until 11am and then took a nap after the State game).

Hilarious!
Back to work today. I woke up at 4am this morning - decided to eat something and try to go back to bed. Luckily I was able to get back to sleep, but I am resigned to just having to sleep when I am sleepy and get stuff done when I am feeling productive for the next few weeks. Anyway, I was scared about how work was going to go when I was falling asleep over Christmas break after only being awake for a few hours, but today wasn't too bad. Since most of our company has off the last week and a half, there weren't too many emails. So I got to read the daily Dilberts and for some reason I really got a kick out of this one. Enjoy!
My co-worker brought in this comic for me as well. He crossed out "Customer Service" and put "HR" instead and posted it on my cube (for those of you who heard that story.)
Oh, also today during lunch we got a few minutes of snow! :-) Not enough to stick anywhere, but it was kinda cool - or at least a perk of it being SOOOOO cold today! It just looked like there was some pollen in the air for the most part, but then there was a few minutes where it actually looked like it was really snowing. 1st snow of the year.

No More Meetings!
So for the last 3 days at work, I've been called into these all day meetings. The first one was the Friday before Labor day. Even after being out of the office all this morning to meet my new OB, this afternoon was just excruciatingly painful by 2:30pm. And maybe the prospect of being a new mom had made me less cynical, but I seriously was not in the mood to hear a gripe fest on how impossible our task was (or how dumb our higher ups were for asking to do the task) or maybe I just don't see how it helps me get stuff done. This is why I never want to go into system engineering. The joke is that those who can't work with other go onto become system engineers...so you can imagine some of the heated discussions we've had thus far. And some of us have only known each other for a few days. The fighting really wasn't too bad, I just don't see how the marathon sessions can really be called productivity.
Oh, but I liked the new OB office. Great first impression and very friendly staff and doctor. Even though I keep hearing the heartbeat each week and this week's growth is definitely some stretching on my belly skin, it just doesn't seem all that real to me yet. Today, I may be feeling the baby move, or maybe I'm just imagining it cuz today I've had about 3 people ask me if I've felt it yet. I'll let y'all know when I decide. ;-)

Short week
We are heading off to Tampa, FL tomorrow morning to go to the ACC Tournament. We have yet to sell our 2nd set of tickets, guess we'll have to do that in Tampa. Guess we'll be taking a huge loss on them, but nothing we can really do about that. Darn supply & demand! Hurts to be on the wrong end of that one.
I'm pooped. Even though it was just a few days at work, there have been some changes at work with the charity committee - and that ended up taking a lot out of me emotionally. The money we had control over is now in someone else's hands and we'll just be making recommendations. Trying to figure out what our role is in our growing company and will all the powers that be pulling, pushing & not really considering us. No one will tell us what our role is, and so we'll just have to figure it out and I'm feeling the burden to care not just about what event will have our logo & name all over it, but in using our resources as a group of people to help others who are less fortunate than us. We may have the greatest morale - but I think it is always important to help others and be grateful for what we have no matter how little or how much.
And a big project is coming up, and seems that it will require a lot of leadership skills and responsibilities. So much for taking it easy. Ah, well, all is good - 3 hours in the salon tonight - I think I may end up just forgetting about the color - I'll wait til I'm gray to do that whole deal. Thanks, Car for reading my blog.
